“My mission in life is to build cool things, lead great teams, and help people grow—whether in tech, business, or life.”
Jose Nieves is a web developer and certified project manager with a unique path—from launching businesses to serving in the U.S. Navy, and now building innovative digital solutions.
How It Started
Graduating in 2010’s tough job market, Jose quickly learned how to adapt. After being laid off, he taught himself web development while running entrepreneurial ventures.
📖 First Step: With no budget for professional services, he picked up Jon Duckett’s HTML & CSS book and started coding.
🔥 Key Skills: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive design, and API integration.
That first website changed everything—igniting a passion for building and a drive to learn more.
Military Service & Technical Growth
Driven by a lifelong goal, Jose enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Fire Controlman (FC) under the Advanced Electronics/Computer Field (AECF) program.
🚢 What he did:
- Maintained & troubleshot high-tech defense systems.
- Mastered IT systems & problem-solving under pressure.
- Developed the discipline & precision that now fuels his career.
From Developer to Project Leader
Jose’s technical skills evolved into leadership when he built HIIT HART, an online fitness platform from the ground up.
💻 What he built:
- A fully functional e-commerce site using WordPress, WooCommerce, and APIs.
- Optimized workflows & automated systems.
🏆 What he learned:
Managing projects was second nature—so he earned certifications like PMP, CSM, and ITIL to refine his skills.
Giving Back & Lifelong Learning
Jose believes in paying it forward. As a New York Cares volunteer, he led a web design program for high school students, helping them build their own sports blog.
When he’s not coding, he’s:
🚗 Restoring his 1973 Volkswagen Beetle
📚 Exploring new tech & business strategies
🏋️ Staying active through fitness
Jose’s journey is about more than just tech—it’s about growth, resilience, and helping others level up.
